45 Minute Inquiry

In Today for our 45 minute inquiry Mrs Mills got a photo of some people playing a sport called curling. We had to come up with some questions that were not closed and then write a blog post about the sport.

In 1511 Curling was invented by soloman harper in medieval Scotland. Curling is a sport that you play on an ice rink with two teams, 4 players in each. To play it you need a Granite stone and some special brooms.

The aim of the sport is to successfully try to get your stone into the middle of the target. To do this one person needs to throw the stone and the others use brooms to clear or alter the ice for the stone so it can get into the the center of the target to score points.

45 Minute Inquiry

For Todays 45 minute inquiry we had to find out about the logs at the Tauranga Port. As Mrs Mills was  Was Driving home she took a photo of some logs at the port. we then discussed question to find out about what we needed to know.

The Vast majority of these logs come from overseas from places like china, and indonesia. but they also always get shipped directly to the port, they often get shipped to other ports and are transported on truck to the right location were the will get treated and cut down into smaller logs.

They Would then get shipped back were they will get cut into planks and made into other products like ply wood and paper.

45 Minute Inquiry

For todays 45 minute inquiry we did a search on 4 photos and had to ask questions on each. The photos were of inuit boots, boomerangs, Totem Poles, and Maori Carvings.

I found Out that inuit boots are Indigenous to the inuits and are made of seal, whale, and reindeer skin.

Boomerangs are native to the Australian aboriginals and are commonly used as a tool to hunt with.

Maori Carving are of coures indigenous to the maoris and are typically made of wood.

Totem Poles are an item made by the north american indians, but vary on were they are made and what they represent.

These items are all incomen because they are indigenous to a particular culture.

Problem Solving

Today we did Maths Problem Solving. My group was Hugh, Lauren, Sharnae, Jacob, caitlin and I, we were the green team. I contributed by answering question number One and helping with number Two.
We ran out of time so unfortunately we did not get to find out our place in the competition.

45 Minute Inquiry

Last Saturday Mrs Mills went to Huntly to bow hunt for koi carp. She was hunting them because they are a pest. They eat native fish and their eggs. They pollute the water by stirring up the mud and it kills native trees. Koi carp can grow up to 80cm and can weigh up to 10kg.

Mrs Mills went bow hunting last weekend because the koi carp were spawning (breeding) and they come into the shallows to do this.

Bow hunting is a sport that requires a bow and arrow. You also need a line attached to the arrow so you can retrieve the fish and arrow. You do not need a license in NZ to bow hunt. It has been around since the Victorian era.

Mrs Mills caught 6 koi carp. She didn’t throw them back into the water because you can receive a fine.  She left them on the side of the lake and they were taken by some fishermen.

What Button Would You Push And Why

I would choose blue because you could fly anywhere. In the description of the button it doesn't say that you have any limits in terms of speed so you could go as fast as you want. so you could be anywhere instantly.

The Capturing Of Osama Bin Laden

It was 04:00 when the stealth choppers rolled in on the compound that Osama was hiding in. I was checking my gun to see if everything was in order. I checked my mags and the breaching charges. We were told beforehand that the doors may be blocked.
There were no windows in this chopper, infact, it was not fully safe checked or tested.
This was a prototype stealth chopper that could apparently go under the radar so we were not exactly happy about being in an untested helicopter.

We arrived in the village of Abbottabad and would be landing in two minutes according to the pilots. We had been planning this attack for months now and training. We were chosen for this job because this is what we specialise in as Seals. We landed just outside the ten foot walls and the other helicopter landed on the courtyard.

We positioned ourselves at the back gate to breach with our explosives. The others were doing the same but to the front door. We had our plan; blow the gate and move in to storm the house. The first charge blew. BANG!  We went to the door of the house with the other squad. We blew the second charge and breached in. I was 9th in line. Me and the three guys behind me walked with the other eight in front while they did crowd control.

Once we got to the stairs me and the other 3 went up. Me and my partner went to the top floor (third floor). The other two searched through the 2nd floor and found Osama’s wife and one of his children. But not only that they found his computer room and a lot of hard drives, documents, and other files. Meanwhile, my partner and I went to the top floor; it was a very small and compact storey. We had everyone else search through the building so we figured that he was here. We were told that if we ran into this situation we should call him in an accent that he would usually be called with.
“ Osama?... Osama?....Osama?“

Osama appeared from the bedroom. Me and my partner shot him several times until he fell to the ground. We yelled out, “We got him,” in relief.

Someone brought up a body bag and we carefully placed Osama in it. Straight after we searched through the computer room and files, we went through cabinets and found hard drives, documents and other files. Once we were finished with the search, we went outside to the helicopters and put the body bag in the middle of the chopper. We hopped in and spread throughout the choppers; one seal team in each and flew back the military base twenty one kilometers away. While we were going back all of us felt relieved that it was over. The search was over. I had done my part in the capturing of Osama Bin Laden.

12 Hour Relay

On Friday we it was the 12 hour relay day, I was not in the 12 hour relay so I did the Fun run.
The fun run was good it lasted for 1 and a half hours. i did a total of 7 laps. when we ran the
course part of the track was going behind the back of the classrooms and  Mrs mills squirted
water on everyone with the hose.

In Block 2 we did the top town competition we there were events like the gumboot throw, Army Course, Wheel barrow race and much more. it was fun and my highlight of the 2nd block would most likely be the leaky bucket and my least favorite would be the sack race.

In Block 3 we did the talent show were people showed off there talents. it  was a good cool down from the more energetic activities.

I left the store feeling empty unlike the 6 year old.

I think I was in the video store. You kind of used desritpive language to show where you were. But it wasn’t that clear, eventually I got it but until I realised that I thought it was a gaming store. Overall you did a good job

A most triumphant Tale

Review by Zane
5 July 2013

Yesterday I went to the school
 production:A most Triumphant tale.
My Favorite character of the production was the star man because he had a interesting role and a cool voice. He also played his role really
well in the I do not think he stuffed up his one. My favorite section of the
production was the voice. I found it funny how they tried to reenact the judges.

Cemetery

Today in second block we walked down to the cemetery. While we were down there we were given a challenge to find the most recent date that a person had died, for us it was 2012.
We also had to find the oldest date, for us it was 1853. One thing I did not know is that you have to wash your hands or eat something before you leave to make yourself back to normal (noa).

Camp Happenings

Camp Happenings

The funniest happening on camp was When cole farted at the boys night out in the bush. we were in a circle telling scary stories and then everybody started laughing.

The biggest challenge on camp was the vertical playpen. once you get to the middle of it, its very exhausting to throw your  leg up to the next level.

The scariest happening on camp was the burma trail. At the start it was scary because instead of going on the track we went of road. But shortly after everybody caught up to each

The most exhausting moment was when trying to get past the middle of the play pen. it took me about 10 times to throw my leg up over
the wooden pole.

The most embarrassing moment was for cole when we farted
when we were all sitting in a circle at the night when we slept
out at the bivouacs.

The most dangerous moment was when me and some friends were
doing the loop track and we made it to the river so we started
picking up big 30kg rocks and throwing them into the water
3 things I learnt was

1. What a leiken is.
2. What a kidney fern is.
3. Not to shot Mr Hart

2 things I was surprised about
1. How high the high ropes were from the top.
2. How Cold the river was.
I question I still have is does the river get colder.
